Umbria's available and free vaccination program includes the following mandatory vaccinations (the Local Health Unit sends a letter with date and details to get your child vaccinated): diphtheria vaccine, tetanus vaccine, poliomyelitis vaccine, hepatitis B vaccine. The following vaccinations are recommended but not mandatory: whooping cough vaccine, measles vaccine, mumps vaccine, rubella vaccine, haemophilus influenzae b vaccine, chickenpox vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, meningococcal vaccine, hepatitis A vaccine. 12-year-old girls are also vaccinated against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). All vaccinations listed in Umbria's regional vaccination calendar are free of charge. Measles, mumps and rubella vaccines are recommended during childhood, however, people of all ages can get vaccinated provided that they have not already had one of these three illnesses. Your paediatrician will explain to you the importance of getting your children vaccinated. Remember that the Local Health Unit will send a letter with details and dates of vaccinations for your children. Nevertheless, people of any age can go to the Vaccination Department and request to get vaccinated free of charge and without your doctor's prescription.
